NICU…Now I Cee U?

Posted by Tony on September 9th, 2008 filed in The Arrival

OK, so not the EXACT translation….but day one of life brought (to my count) 16 different visitors for the trio.  With the strict rules that allow only 3 of us to see the babies at once (with at least one being a parent), it meant for a lot of back and forth for me, and a lot of waiting for guests that wanted their peak.  In all actuality, everyone was pretty spread out so that it just meant I got to spend about 3 straight hours with my kids (yay!).  At this point Jaclyn was still feeling a bit under the weather, so she stayed in the room most of the day and unfortunately didn’t spend much time with her children…which made me sad after all her hard work.  Thanks who all did visit and I hope that your time with the kids wasn’t cut short in any way.  Jaclyn was finally able to hold Tyler and see the kids when the rest of us went to dinner last night, and she is feeling better and better every moment.  Needless to say I was asleep before my head hit the pillow and we both got some much needed rest.

Today we arrived at the NICU to find Tyler wearing some shades…as he was getting phototherapy to help with bilirubin removal (Sophia will be starting similar therapy).  Grace was getting a blood transfusion as yesterday’s poking and prodding left her a little short on hemoglobin.  (BTW, all babies have the same blood type A+, with mother being AO, and father being O+…strange).  Tyler was the first to start eating and Sophia would’ve matched him if she hadn’t fallen asleep.  When he was finished, he was so excited he posed for this picture (the white dots on the side of his head are for his protective glasses); while Sophia (minus yesterday’s oxygen tubes) hangs out with mommy:

Jaclyn & Tony, what beautiful children. I so enjoyedmy extended visit with all of you today and feel privileged to have had you all to myself. I’m especially fond of Tyler…perhaps it was the 12 minutes we spent conversing while he was awake sharing those beautiful eyes. He, Grace and Sophia have all been blessed into am absolutely wonderful family!
